Chiselled by the wind
A bear sculpted by the ruler of the winds
The Roccia dell’Orso (Bear Rock) was sculpted by the wind over millions of years. A stroll around this symbol of Palau feels like making homage to an ancient god.

Myth meets reality
In front of the Maddalena islands lies a legendary cape. Shaped like a bear looking out to sea, the Roccia dell’Orso stands over 120 metres high and keeps watch over Palau and the Costa Smeralda.
Key facts
The mystery of Bear Cape
According to Hellenistic scholar Victor Berard, Capo dell’Orso has links to the mysterious Laestrygonians. Ulysses landed here, hoping to find shelter for his thirsty crew. But instead of discovering the refuge he’d expected, the locals ate the sailors.
